The proposed variants assume reducing traffic in Opata Rybińskiego street with removal of through traffic in the direction of Osowa outside the strict centre of Old Oliwa. The purpose is to protect the existing historical development and Oliwski Park against noise, vibrations, exhaust fumes, and to create a safe pedestrian zone in this area.
The above actions have an absolute impact on the rehabilitation process of Old Oliwa and Jelitkowo – areas entered in the Rehabilitation Area of the City of Gdańsk. One should consider the option of removing the tramway line to Opata Rybińskiego street and integrating it with the surface of the pavement. This would allow releasing a considerable strip of land for new investments. It is proposed that the tramway terminus be removed to the area at the intersection of Opacka and Al. Grunwaldzka streets. Rearranging traffic in the area of Opata Rybińskiego street and the tramway terminus gives a unique opportunity to rearrange pedestrian traffic on the route PKP- SKM Oliwa station – tramway terminus – Oliwa Cathedral.
When streamlining Old Oliwa one should remember about the pedestrian zone in the area of the corridor: Potok Oliwski and Oś Parku Oliwskiego. One should also bear in mind pedestrian circulations in the area of the Oliwa Cathedral related to seasonal tourist traffic and weekend recreation. The rearrangement should streamline pedestrian and bicycle circulations between the Cathedral – park and the view tower Pachołek, Kuźnia Wodna in Dolina Radości, and even the ZOO.
